Tanja Fajon (born 9 May 1971) is a Slovenian politician and journalist, currently serving as Member of the European Parliament. She is a member of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats.
Fajon was born in Ljubljana, where she obtained her bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Ljubljana. She also holds a BA in marketing in non-profit organizations (with honors). In 2005 Fajon obtained a MA degree in international studies from the College of Interdisciplinary Studies in Belgium.
In December 2010, she was the first person to receive an honorary doctorate from American University in Bosnia and Herzegovina, located in Sarajevo.[1][2]
A journalist, Fajon worked for Radio Glas Ljubljane between 1991 and 1995. She was also a reporter for Republika (1993) and later worked for RTV Slovenija (1995–2009), from 2001 as its EU correspondent from Brussels.
In 2009 she was elected to the European Parliament on behalf of the Social Democrats, associated with the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats. Fajon is a member of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs and a substitute on the Committee on Transport and Tourism.
Tanja Fajon greatly contributed to the Albanian citizens getting the right to travel in the European Union without visas. This is the first step on Albania's path to EU accession. In December 2010, a cafe named after her was opened in Tirana, the capital of Albania, in her honour.[3][4]
